Crystal Lake is now known as Kuester Lake. This horseshoe shaped lake east of Grand Island was a popular weekend and summer getaway. Gradually it developed into a community of year-round homes, thanks in part to the presence of the Grand Island Saddle Club. The Saddle Club originally had stables attached to the clubhouse. The stables are gone, but the Saddle Club continues as a popular private club.

Memorial Park on West Third Street was dedicated following the World War (before we knew enough to number them). The monument in the center of the photo lists the Hall County residents lost. Originally there was a tree for each of the dead as well.
